Minor league report: Penguins win in defenseman Harrison Brunicke's debut
Goaltender Filip Larsson made 25 saves on 28 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-3 win against the Charlotte Checkers at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C.
The result boosted Larsson’s record to 12-8-3.
Forward Tristan Broz led Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (37-18-7-1, 82 points) with two assists while forwards Joona Koppanen, Matt Nieto, Vasily Ponomarev, Sam Poulin and Valtteri Puustinen all contributed goals.
Penguins defenseman Harrison Brunicke made his professional debut. Opening the contest on the right side of the second pairing, Brunicke recorded a power-play assist as well as one shot on net.
Highlights:
The victory extended a winning streak to four games and pushed the Penguins ahead of the Checkers (37-20-3-3, 80 points) into second place of the Atlantic Division.
The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Checkers on Sunday, 1 p.m.
A goal and an assist by forward Logan Pietila led the Wheeling Nailers to a 4-1 win against the Cincinnati Cyclones at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.
Forward Matty De St. Phalle recorded two assists for Wheeling (38-23-3-1) while forwards Gabe Klassen and Matthew Querica as well as defenseman Isaac Belliveau each contributed a goal.
Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 24 saves on 25 shots to improve his mark to 15-10-2.
Highlights:
With the victory, Derek Army (148-135-19) became the Nailers’ all-time winningest coach, surpassing Clark Donatelli (147-119-32).
The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Bloomington Bison on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
