Minor league report: Penguins win in overtime, Nailers set franchise record
A goal at 4:27 of overtime by forward Emil Bemstrom completed a hat trick and gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 5-4 home win against the Springfield Thunderbirds at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
Forward Ville Koivunen recorded three assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (14-7-1-0) while defenseman Filip Kral and forward Vasily Ponomarev each contributed two assists.
Goaltender Filip Larsson made 26 saves on 30 shots, improving his record to 3-3-1.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.
The Wheeling Nailers set a new franchise record — since the team moved to Wheeling in 1992 — with their 13th consecutive win, a 4-1 victory against the Reading Royals at Santander Arena in Reading.
A previous mark of 12 consecutive wins was held by the 2003-04 and 2023-24 teams.
Forward Kyle Jackson had a goal and two assists for Wheeling (17-3-1) while forward Jordan Martel contributed a goal and an assist.
Goaltender Sergei Murashov’s record was lifted to 10-2-0 after he made 30 saves on 31 shots.
The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Toledo Walleye on Friday, 7:10 p.m.
