Minor league report: Penguins win in overtime, remain unbeaten
An overtime goal by forward Ville Koivunen gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 3-2 win against the Charlotte Checkers at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday.
The result improved Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to 7-0-0. The only teams in franchise history to open a season with longer winning streaks were the 2005-06 and 2010-11 clubs (9-0-0 each).
Koivunen also recorded an assist while forwards Tristan Broz and Danton Heinen scored regulation goals for the Penguins.
Goaltender Filip Larsson stopped 32 of 34 shots to boost his record to 2-0-0.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Providence Bruins on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.
Forward Matthew Querica had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 7-3 loss to the Maine Mariners at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine.
Defenseman Aidan Sutter and forward Nolan Renwick each scored goals for Wheeling (1-1-0-0) while forward Zach Gallant contributed two assists.
Goaltender Maxim Pavlenko made 28 saves on 35 shots as his record was leveled at 1-1-0.
The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Mariners on Sunday, 3 p.m.
