Minor league report: Sam Poulin scores on penalty shot as Penguins lose

Forward Sam Poulin scored on a penalty shot for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-2 home loss to the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Defenseman Ryan Shea also scored for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (29-2o-7-1) while goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 25 saves on 29 shots in the defeat which dropped his record to 18-9-5.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the rival Phantoms on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.


Defenseman Isaac Belliveau and forward Evan Vierling each had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-3 road win against the Fort Wayne Komets at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Forwards Matt Koopman and Justin McRae also scored goals for Wheeling (32-24-1-1) while goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 30 saves on 33 shots, improving his record to 22-16-1.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Iowa Heartlanders on Wednesday, 7:35 p.m.
