The NFL is investigating the day-after change to Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s practice-participation status.

The Ravens could be disciplined after announcing Jackson was a full participant in Friday’s practice, then changing that on Saturday to indicate he was limited.

“The league will look into this,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Saturday. “The league reviews any matter involving a change to a player’s status.”

Ravens coach John Harbaugh declared after his team’s 30-16 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday that there was no wrongdoing.

“It really is an honest mistake,” Harbaugh said. “I can tell you this: Nobody’s trying to hide anything. There’s no advantage to be gained with that.”

Baltimore announced Saturday that Jackson (hamstring) would miss his third straight game. Tyler Huntley started after being signed off the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Friday. Huntley completed 17 of 22 passes for 186 yards and one touchdown while adding 53 rushing yards.

When announcing Jackson’s practice status change, the Ravens wrote: “Lamar Jackson was present for and participated fully in our entire Friday practice ahead of Sunday’s game against the Bears. Upon further evaluation today and after conferring with the league office, because Lamar didn’t take any starter reps in practice, we updated our report to reflect his practice participation.”

Harbaugh said he isn’t involved in designating the practice participation of injured players. He said the training staff and public relations department make the decisions.

“I think, in their defense, he practiced a full practice,” Harbaugh said. “I think they felt like, because he did the same number of (usual) reps, it was a full practice. But when you dig in and read the rule, at the end of the day, it wasn’t right. So, that’s what it was. That’s why, as soon as we found out, we changed it.”

Rostered players who practice with the scout team are supposed to be labeled as limited even if they were full participants, according to the league injury report policy.

Per NBC Sports, the league could dole out a number of punishments. The list includes a fine, suspension of involved individuals or loss of draft picks.

Bears coach Ben Johnson declined to say how much the shenanigans affected his team’s preparations.

“We were preparing for Lamar, and then when we found out he wasn’t playing, then we get ready for the next guy,” Johnson said.

Harbaugh said he was “hopeful” Jackson will play Thursday night against the host Miami Dolphins.

The Ravens (2-5) snapped a four-game slide with Sunday’s victory.
