NHL announces draft order; Penguins currently have 6 picks
On Wednesday, the NHL announced the formal order of the upcoming draft this weekend.
In total, the Penguins are currently slated to have six picks.
Their selections by round and overall number:
Second round — No. 44 (from the Philadelphia Flyers via Carolina Hurricanes)
Second round — No. 46
Fourth round — No. 111
Sixth round — No. 175
Seventh round — No. 207
Seventh round — No. 223 (from the New York Rangers)
Two of the selections were acquired via trades.
• The No. 44 pick came on March 7 as part of a deal that sent forward Jake Guentzel to the Hurricanes. This pick originally belonged to the Flyers.
• The No. 223 pick came on June 29, 2023 along with the No. 91 overall selection of the 2023 draft in exchange for sending the No. 90 selection in that same draft to the Rangers.
Three selections that originally belonged to the Penguins are elsewhere due to trades.
• The No. 14 pick in the first round and the No. 53 pick in the fifth round were sent to the San Jose Sharks on Aug. 6, 2023 as part of a deal that brought forwards Dillon Hamaliuk, Rem Pitlick, defenseman Erik Karlsson and a third-round selection in 2026 to the Penguins.
• The No. 79 pick in the third round was sent to the Anaheim Ducks on March 3, 2023 as part of a deal that brought defenseman Dmitri Kulikov to the Penguins.
