The Penguins’ Sidney Crosby tries the wraparound on Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard in the first period Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at PPG Paints Arena.

Sidney Crosby is the second-best center in hockey for the third straight year, according to a list compiled by the NHL Network.

Crosby checked in behind Edmonton’s Connor McDavid on the show “Top 20 Centers Right Now,” which premiered Sunday night.

Penguins teammate Evgeni Malkin was ranked 13th. Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon, Florida’s Aleksander Barkov and Toronto’s John Tavares rounded out the top five.

“On the power play, he is as good as there is in the NHL,” NHL Network analyst Mike Johnson said. “The part where he’s really evolved his game in the last few years is he’s gotten better in his own end. He bears down a little bit more, he makes good plays, more defensibly reliable.”

Follow the Pittsburgh Penguins all offseason long.
