Zachary Lauzon puts on a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey after being selected during the 2017 NHL Draft in Chicago. The NHL on Wednesday announced it is postponing the 2020 draft in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The NHL announced Wednesday the postponement of its upcoming draft and related events, adding another sports event casualty to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.

The 2020 draft was scheduled for June 26-27 in Montreal. But with league play suspended indefinitely, at this point it is near-certain the playoffs still will be going on — if they even have started.

Also postponed were the scouting combine scheduled for June 1-6 in Buffalo, N.Y., and annual NHL awards show from Las Vegas.

The league provided no make-up date for any of the events, its release saying only “the location, timing and format of the 2020 NHL Draft (and Draft Lottery) will be announced when details are finalized.”

Keep up with the Pittsburgh Penguins all season long.
