Nicknamed ‘Old Fashioned,’ Terrell Edmunds feeling comfortable in Year 3 for Steelers
Despite being in his third NFL season, Terrell Edmunds is older than only eight of the other 52 players on the Pittsburgh Steelers active roster.
Edmunds might be young, but his nickname is “Old.”
“Old Fashioned,” to be precise, the Steelers starting strong safety revealed Monday.
“ ‘Old Fashioned,’ I mean … I just go out there I do the same thing every day,” Edmunds said during a video conference call with media. “I really don’t do anything outside of football. I go home. Everyone says I have the same routine every day, so I just got to stay on it and just keep on putting in the work every day, just working every day.”
Edmunds, 23, hasn’t missed a game since the Steelers took him in the first round of the 2018 draft, and he has started all but one for the Steelers. He hasn’t filled up the statsheet throughout his career, but Edmunds believes he might be playing his best as he approaches the midpoint of his third NFL season.
“Man, I am feeling pretty good out there,” he said a day after having two solo tackles and two passes defended during a 27-24 win at the previously undefeated Tennessee Titans. “I am with my team going out there playing hard and trying to go and help the team out the best way I can.”

With inside linebacker Devin Bush out for the season because of a torn ACL, Edmunds has been mentioned as a possible candidate to fill in as a hybrid linebacker, particularly on passing downs.
According to Pro Football Focus, Edmunds has played “in the box” for 128 of the 343 defensive snaps he has played this season.
“I feel comfortable in the box,” Edmunds said. “I feel like that’s where I can see things fast and react fast. It’s more so playing football for me there.
“The coaches feel comfortable with me there, so whenever they put me, I go out there and try to make plays.”
