Robert Morris’ 80-78 victory Thursday night at Green Bay — the Colonials’ fourth straight triumph — represented a stunning comeback for the defending Horizon League champs.

It was a classic.

“You’ve got to enjoy them when you steal one like that,” Robert Morris coach Andy Toole said on the RMU postgame broadcast.

DeSean Goode scored 18 points and secured nine rebounds while playing through foul trouble, and Nikolaos Chitikoudis’ bucket with 4 seconds remaining completed a furious comeback from 11 points down as Robert Morris (7-2, 1-0) won its Horizon League opener at Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis.

The Colonials trailed 76-65 before outscoring Green Bay, 15-2, over the final 3:03.

Darius Livingston’s second 3-point shot during the run gave Robert Morris a 78-77 lead with 22 seconds remaining after the Colonials forced a 10-second call on Green Bay (4-6, 0-1).

Justin Allen made 1 of 2 free throws for the Phoenix before Chitikoudis took a feed from Livingston in the paint and scored the final go-ahead bucket for RMU.

The Colonials trailed by 11 points twice in the second half after holding a 36-33 halftime lead.

“We still have some things to solve,” Toole said, “but obviously, to be able to get your first Horizon League win on the road in that kind of fashion is something you can build on.”

Ryan Prather Jr., the only returning player from last season’s NCAA Tournament team, added 11 points and Livingston and Cam Wilds contributed 10 apiece for Robert Morris, which plays Saturday night at Milwaukee.

Allen scored a game-high 20 points to lead Green Bay, which rode a 13-2 run to a 50-43 lead with 15:32 left.

Preston Ruedinger added 17 points for the Phoenix before exiting late with an injury. C.J. O’Hara and Marcus Hall finished with 14 apiece for Green Bay, which shot 52.2%.

“We somehow figured out how to steal a victory,” Toole said. “Some big shots made, some big plays made, a lot of second-effort plays.”

He said the Colonials’ bench gave them a big lift.

“We needed every one of them,” Toole said. “It was a great celebration in (the locker room). Everybody was all fired up. Everybody was enjoying the win. So many of them contributed to it. Everybody that was involved with the game at the end of the game was so locked in and so engaged. We need that for 40 minutes, night after night.”
