No banquet this year, but YWCA announces sportswomen of the year winners

The YWCA of Westmoreland County canceled its annual awards banquet set for April 7 because of the coronavirus outbreak and has closed its doors until at least April 1.

But that did not stop the organization’s tradition of recognizing some of the top female athletes and teams in the county.

Its 2020 Sportswomen of the Year winners are as follows:

Girls Sports Team of the Year (grades 6-8): YWCA Dragons field hockey team

Teen Sports Team of the Year (grades 9-12): Greensburg Central Catholic girls golf team

Outstanding Female Coach Award: Jeanne Kaylor

Women’s Health and Fitness Award: Aubrey Worek

Sportswoman with Special Needs: Jessica Welch-Mussori

Sports Girl of the Year for Individual Excellence (grades 6-8): Tiffany Amber Zelmore

Sports Girl of the Year for Excellence in a Team Sport (grades 6-8): Rory Pallone

Sports Teen of the Year for Individual Excellence (grades 9-12): Kasey Strokel

Sports Teen of the Year for Excellence in a Team Sport (grades 9-12): Jane Garver and Tatum Hoffman

Sportswoman of the Year for Individual Excellence (women 18 years or older): Megan Erfley

Outstanding Sportswomen Team of the Year (college or adult): Westmoreland Community College cross country team
