Forward Austen Swankler, a native of North Huntingdon, spent the past two NCAA seasons with Bowling Green.

Austin Swankler, a native of North Huntingdon who was the fifth-leading scorer in NCAA men’s hockey last season with Bowling Green, has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal, alleging he was the victim of hazing at the school.

“I came out about everything that happened to stop future incidents from occurring,” Swankler said Friday, via his account with X, formerly known as Twitter. “Hazing is a serious issue especially to this school. So before you saying (sic) I’m dragging the school through mud know the facts. I know the facts because I was a victim.”

On Monday, Bowling Green suspended three unidentified players and placed head coach Ty Eigner on administrative leave.

Per a release from the school, local law enforcement officials in Ohio — a state with specific laws regarding hazing — were notified and Bowling Green initiated its own investigation.

“Through our commitment — both on campus and across the state — the University remains steadfast in its mission to eradicate hazing,” read the statement. “Our community continues to embrace a culture of accountability, and we continue to be grateful for those who report concerns.”

Swankler did not return a text message Friday.

As a sophomore center last season, Swankler, 22, recorded 44 points (19 goals, 25 assists) in 35 games. In July, he attended the Vegas Golden Knights prospect camp as nonroster invitee. He participated in the Nashville Predators’ prospect camp in a similar capacity in 2022.

Several NCAA teams are scheduled to open play for the 2023-24 season on Oct. 7.
