The Northeast Conference has decided to postpone the start of its fall sports seasons, with one exception, until Sept. 10, the league announced Thursday.

Football teams may play nonconference games before that date at the discretion of the individual schools.

The conference also announced that overnight travel will be limited and that schools must confirm their opponents are following acceptable health and safety guidelines before nonconference competition.

“With so many unknown factors at this point in time, the NEC has elected to delay the start of competition and take advantage of the extra time to continue to evaluate the local, regional and national landscape relative to covid-19,” NEC commissioner Noreen Morris said in a release. “The Presidents will reconvene in a few weeks to chart the course moving forward.”

Robert Morris announced last month that it was leaving the NEC for the Horizon League in 10 sports, including men’s and women’s basketball. St. Francis is one of 10 schools that remain in the conference.
