John Stevens helped lead Norwin to an undefeated wrestling season in 1959. That team featured seven Westmoreland County champions.

It can now say it features a Thiel College hall of famer.

Stevens will be one of a half-dozen inductees going into the Thiel Athletics Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Oct. 11.

The 39th hall of fame class also will include former district football players George Kum-Nji (2005) and Steve Minton (2008).

Kum-Nji, who played at Allderdice, was a four-time All-PAC selection (2004-01) at defensive end. He is third in program history in sacks with 27.

Minton, a Seneca Valley graduate, also was a four-time All-PAC selection, at running back. He helped lead the 2005 Gators to a 10-0 regular season, a PAC title and a NCAA Division III playoff berth.

He is the program leader in rushing attempts (645) and points scored (216), and is tied for the lead with 35 rushing touchdowns. Minton rushed for 2,970 career yards, second in program history.

Norwin inducted the ‘59 wrestling team, of which Stevens was a key member, into its hall of fame in 2017.

Stevens, a ‘65 grad, was a member of two PAC title-winning teams and he won a pair of conference titles, in 1963 and ‘64, both at 167 pounds. He went a combined 19-0 in the regular season across those two years with 11 pins.

The 1963-64 wrestling team was inducted into the Thiel hall in 2009.

The hall of fame ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Lutheran Heritage Room in the Howard Miller Student Center in Greenville. Tickets are $50.
