The U.S. Amateur is being held at Oakmont Country Club this week.

Western Pennsylvania golf fans will have plenty of chances to see some of the world’s top golfers.

The USGA named Oakmont Country Club its second “anchor site” for future USGA championships Wednesday, and the famed course will host the U.S. Open in 2025, 2034, 2042 and 2049, as well as the U.S. Women’s Open in 2028 and 2038, the Walker Cup in 2033 and the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 2046.

Pinehurst Resort was named the first anchor site in 2020.

“It’s a great privilege and honor for Oakmont to become the second anchor site,” Oakmont Country Club President Ed Stack said Wednesday prior to the start of match play in the 121st U.S. Amateur being held at Oakmont. “To be selected to host these USGA Championships through 2049 in a real honor.

“We have the Walker Cup coming, which is a first for Oakmont, and we’re really excited about that too. Mr. Clay Henry Fownes built this golf course to host national championships. He did that in 1903, and it’s been validated that it will continue through the middle of the century.”

Merion Golf Club in the Philadelphia suburbs of Ardmore was awarded the U.S. Open in 2030 and 2050 and the U.S. Women’s Open in 2034 and 2046.

Being an anchor site means Oakmont will be in a rotation of a select few courses to host the U.S. Open.

“We’re very proud to continue that important tradition as we go forward with these championships,” USGA senior managing director of championships John Bodenhamer said. “So we leave you all with a reminder of the excitement for all of us that the USGA shares with what lies ahead in Pennsylvania.

“We can only hope the late legendary Arnold Palmer and the greats that came before and after here to the Keystone State would all be proud on this incredible day.”

Oakmont has hosted the U.S. Open nine times (1927, 1935, 1953, 1962, 1973, 1983, 1994, 2007 and 2016). It also hosted the U.S. Women’s Open in 1992 and 2010 and the U.S. Amateur in 1919, 1925, 1938, 1969, 2003 and this year.

Some past champions include of Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Bobby Jones, Dustin Johnson, Paula Creamer and Ernie Els.

“Our members and all of Pittsburgh are so excited to host the USGA and the best players in the game at Oakmont, which we believe is one of the most exacting tests of golf anywhere in the world,” Stack said. “It is the perfect venue to identify the best golfers around the globe, in concert with the USGA’s mission for championship golf.

“The new champions who will be crowned over the next 30 years will join a distinguished list of past champions and etch their names in golf history. We are proud and humbled to showcase Oakmont Country Club, Pittsburgh, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with a number of USGA championships through 2049.”
