On heels of playing Steelers, Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey tests positive for covid-19
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be on the watch for a potential covid-19 outbreak Monday after Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey said he has tested positive for the virus.
Humphrey made the announcement on his verified Twitter account Monday morning, about 18 hours after the Steelers defeated the Ravens, 28-24, at M&T Bank Stadium.
“I got the Rona hopefully I’ll be back healthy soon,” Humphrey wrote.
Humphrey played all 53 defensive snaps for the Ravens and was involved in four tackles.
Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten released a statement on behalf of the organization and said the results of the team’s covid-19 testing Monday morning “came back negative.”
“We will follow the NFL’s intensive protocols and take precautionary measures at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex to ensure the safety of our players, coaches and staff remain our highest priority,” he said.
Humphrey missed practice last Wednesday because of an illness, but he was a full participant Thursday and Friday.
Initially, the NFL tested players every day of the week except for game day. Testing was expanded beginning in Week 6, but results of tests taken Sunday morning aren’t usually known until later in the day or on Monday.
The Ravens also released a statement about the positive test, although they did not name Humphrey as the infected player.
“We were informed early this morning that a Ravens player has tested positive for covid-19. He immediately began to self-quarantine, and our organization is now in the NFL’s intensive protocol.
“In coordination with the league, we have started the process of contact tracing and are following the guidelines of intensive protocol.
“The health and safety of our players, staff and community continue to be our highest priority. We will continue to work closely with the NFL and our team doctors and will follow their guidance.”
Humphrey is in his fourth season with the Ravens. A former first-round pick from Alabama, Humphrey was named a first-team All-Pro in 2019.
