Passion women's football team begins season against Cleveland
The Pittsburgh Passion women’s semi-pro football team will face the Cleveland Fusion on Saturday to kick off its 17th campaign.
The game, set for West Allegheny’s Joe P. DeMichela Stadium, will kick off at 6 p.m. Gates open at 5:30.
Tickets for all Passion home games are $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors and military members. Those five and younger will be admitted free of charge.
The Passion will visit longstanding rival D.C. Divas next Saturday.
They also play home games against Grand Rapids (April 27), Baltimore (May 4) and D.C. Divas (May 18).
Pittsburgh again is a member of the Women’s Football Alliance. The Passion finished 2018 with a 7-2 record. They fell to eventual WFA champion Boston in the semifinals of the National Conference playoffs.
Ten team members earned 2018 All-American status as first-team National Conference all-stars. Included in that group was quarterback Lisa Horton, who was honored on the first team for the 14th time.
Horton retired after last season, completing a 15-year career with the Passion.
She helped the team win a national championship in 2007 and the International Women’s Football League title in 2014 and 2015.
