Pitt’s 2023 recruiting class took a significant step in the wrong direction Monday when quarterback Kenny Minchey decommitted from the Panthers.

Minchey had been committed to Pitt for the past seven months, and his departure leaves coach Pat Narduzzi without a quarterback in his recruiting class. The first signing day is Dec. 21.

Minchey, a senior at Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, Tenn., has struggled with a shoulder injury this season. But when healthy, he has completed more than two-thirds of his pass attempts (67 of 99) for 1,042 yards.

At 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, he is ranked a three-star prospect by Rivals.com.
