Patrick Comer will lead Westmoreland County Community College sports into the future.

Comer, of Greensburg, was named the school’s next athletic director.

From the start, he will oversee an important move by the college. WCCC is primed to compete in NJCAA Division II and will offer scholarships to athletes starting in fall 2023.

The limited scholarships will help cover tuition, books, fees and supplies.

Sports at WCCC include baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, bowling, cross country, golf, soccer, softball and volleyball.

Comer already has familiarity with his surroundings because he has been working in the athletic department as an on-site manager for home athletic events, along with maintaining the department’s website and overseeing intramural sports.

Comer first joined WCCC in 2011 as the cross country coach and led the program to three NJCAA championships and 15 conference titles. He was the NJCAA Central Region Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2019.
