Penn State Offensive graduate assistant Danny O’Brien talks with quarterback Drew Allar (15) against Rutgers in State College.

James Franklin and Penn State have won its last three New Year’s Six bowl appearances — and the Nittany Lions are favored to make it four in a row.

Penn State opened as a slight favorite over Ole Miss ahead of the teams’ Peach Bowl matchup on Dec. 30 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Nittany Lions are 3.5-point favorites on FanDuel and DraftKings. The over/under point total is currently set at 48.5 on FanDuel.

Penn State is set to play in its first Peach Bowl after a 10-2 season in which Franklin’s team lost to Ohio State and Michigan and took care of the rest of their schedule. The Nittany Lions were 9-3 against the spread and 9-1 against the spread as a favorite, according to Covers.com.

Ole Miss also went 10-2 with a 7-4-1 record against the spread. The Rebels were underdogs three times, failing to cover against Alabama and Georgia but winning outright vs. LSU.

The Peach Bowl is an intriguing matchup between one of the best defenses and one of the more potent offenses in college football.

Penn State ranked first in the FBS in total defense, allowing 223.3 yards per game — the lowest per game figure since Alabama’s 2011 national title-winning defense.

In the regular season, Penn State also ranked first nationally in yards per play (3.91) and sacks (48), second in passing defense (153.6 yards per game) and third in scoring defense (11.4 points per game), rush defense (69.7 yards per game) and tackles for loss (101).

Ole Miss, meanwhile, averaged 34.8 points per game, ranking 20th in the FBS and fourth in the SEC. The Rebels, led by quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Quinshon Judkins, racked up 77 plays of 20-plus yards — tied for the eighth-most in the country.

The Peach Bowl between Penn State and Ole Miss will kick off at noon on Dec. 30 and air nationally on ESPN.
