The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Elmer Soderblom from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a third-round draft pick in 2026.

Soderblom, 24, has played in 39 games this season and scored three points (two goals, one assist) while averaging 10:41 of ice time per contest, including 32 seconds during short-handed scenarios.

Per the LinesLinesLines social media account, which monitors player deployment, Soderblom has opened 37 games on the left wing and two games at right wing. He has been a healthy scratch for 20 games this season.

A left-handed shot, Soderblom is in the first year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $1.125 million. He is a pending restricted free agent in 2027.

Listed at 6-foot-8 and 252 pounds, the Swedish-born Soderblom will match former forward Steve McKenna (6-8, 252) as the tallest player in franchise history.

A sixth-round draft pick (No. 159 overall) in 2019, Soderblom has spent the first three seasons of his NHL career with the Red Wings. He is the brother of Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Arvid Soderblom.

The draft pick was originally property of the San Jose Sharks. It was acquired as part of a trade that brought defenseman Erik Karlsson to the Penguins in August of 2023.
