In 24 games with the Abbotsford Canucks this past postseason, goaltender Arturs Silovs had a 16-7-0 record.

The Pittsburgh Penguins added to their goaltending depth Sunday by acquiring Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a fourth-round draft pick in 2027.

Silovs, 24, is entering the final year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $850,000. He is scheduled to become a restricted free agent in 2026.

A native of Riga, Latvia, Silovs (pronounced SIH-lahvz) is coming off a strong season at the American Hockey League level where he led the Abbotsford Canucks to the Calder Cup championship.

During the postseason, he played in 24 games and posted a 16-7-0 record along with a 2.01 goals-against average, a .931 save percentage and five shutouts. Those figures earned him the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as postseason MVP.

As for the regular season, the left-catching Silovs (6-foot-4, 203 pounds) split the 2024-25 campaign between Vancouver and Abbotsford.

In 10 NHL contests, he had a 2-6-1 record, a 3.65 GAA and an .861 save percentage. At the AHL level, Silovs played in 21 games, earning a 14-5-2 record, a 2.41 GAA and a .908 save percentage.

The Canucks selected Silovs with the top pick in the sixth round (No. 156 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. He has spent his entire professional career on this continent with that organization.

Silovs’s arrival happens shortly after the Penguins dealt away primary backup goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to the San Jose Sharks on July 1 in exchange for a third-round pick in 2028.

Tristan Jarry remains under contract for three more seasons with a $5.375 million cap hit and is presumably atop the depth chart. Joel Blomqvist, 23, started last season in the NHL and ended up playing 15 games with the Penguins. Sergei Murashov is a high-upside 21-year-old prospect. Filip Larsson is a 26-year-old with NHL potential as well.

Blomqvist and Murashov are the only members of the group who do not require exposure to waivers for an assignment to a minor league affiliate.

Stillman’s tenure with the Penguins organization was brief after he was acquired in a trade with the New Jersey Devils on March 7.

Stationed with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL, Stillman skated in 19 games for the AHL Penguins and scored three points.

A right-handed shot, Stillman (6-1, 185) was a first-round draft pick (No. 29 overall) of the Devils in 2021.

He is entering the final year of a three-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $863,334.
