St. Louis Blues right wing Mathias Laferriere (58) moves the puck against the Dallas Stars during a preseason NHL hockey game in Dallas, Monday, Sept. 16, 2019.

The Pittsburgh Penguins made a minor trade Thursday afternoon, acquiring forward Mathias Laferriere from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for fellow winger Corey Andonovski.

Laferriere, 24, is a right-handed shot originally drafted in the sixth round (169th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft by St. Louis.

Like Andonovski, he has never before appeared in an NHL game of consequence.

In 33 games with the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League, he has two goals with eight assists.

Last season, he appeared in 68 games for the Thunderbirds, contributing seven goals with 18 assists.

The 6-foot-2, 188-pound native of Montreal, Canada, carries a salary cap hit of $775,000 through 2024-25, same as Andonovski.

Laferriere is a veteran of 2017 career AHL games, all with Springfield, in which he’s accrued 21 career goals with 49 assists.

Per the Penguins, he will immediately report to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
