Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defnseman Mark Friedman

The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned defenseman Mark Friedman to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Wednesday.

A healthy scratch for the past three games, Friedman has appeared in three contests this season and has no points while averaging 13 minutes, 8 seconds of ice time per contest.

Primarily deployed on the top pairing with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, Friedman has played in 19 AHL games and scored five points (one goal, four assists).

In corresponding transactions, forward Ryan Poehling and goaltender Tristan Jarry were placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 30 and Jan. 2, respectively.

An undisclosed injury has sidelined Poehling for seven of the past eight games. As for Jarry, he has missed the past three contests due to an undisclosed ailment.

Each player has been labeled as “day to day” by coach Mike Sullivan.
