Penguins assign defenseman Mark Friedman to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Mark Friedman was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) after clearing waivers Thursday afternoon.
Having bounced between the NHL and AHL rosters much of the season, Friedman, a right-handed shot, has appeared in 23 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and scored three points (one goal, two assists) while averaging 14:27 of ice time per contest.
With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Friedman has played in 24 games and scored six points.
This transaction allowed the Penguins to activate defenseman Marcus Pettersson from long-term injured reserve in advance of Thursday’s regular season finale, a road contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
An undisclosed injury has kept the left-handed Pettersson sidelined for the past 12 games.
In 67 games this season, Pettersson has 24 points (one goal, 23 assists) while clocking 20:33 of average ice time per contest.
Additionally, the Penguins changed forward Alex Nylander’s recall status from emergency to recall.
Summoned to the NHL roster five times since March 7, his most recent recall came Tuesday. In eight NHL games, the right-handed Nylander has two points (one goal, one assist) while averaging 12:30 of ice time per contest.
An All-Star with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, Nylander has scored 50 points, including team-best 25 goals, in 55 AHL games.
