The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned defenseman Sebastian Aho to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Saturday.

Recalled to the NHL club March 11 under emergency roster conditions, Aho (5-foot-10, 176 pounds) had been shuffled between the NHL and AHL rosters repeatedly in paper transactions before Saturday’s assignment.

A healthy scratch for the past five games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he has yet to play an NHL contest this season.

With the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this season, Aho has skated in 17 games and posted seven assists.

A left-handed shot, the 29-year-old Aho is in the first year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.
