The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned rookie forward Tristan Broz to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Wednesday.

This transaction comes one day after he was recalled from the AHL affiliate and was a healthy scratch during Tuesday’s 2-1 home shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Typically deployed as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s top center, Broz is that team’s leading scorer this season with 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 33 games.

A second-round draft pick (No. 58 overall) in 2021, Broz made his NHL debut earlier this season, appearing in one game with no points and 11:30 of ice time.

Broz, 23, is in the second year of a three-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $925,000.
