Penguins rookie forward Sam Lafferty has appeared in 10 games this season and has six points (three goals, three assists).

The Penguins have assigned rookie forward Sam Lafferty to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

The 24-year-old native of Hollidaysburg was recalled on Oct. 7 and appeared in 10 games while scoring six points (three goals, three assists).

Primarily used on the right wing of the fourth line, Lafferty was occasionally used as a second-line center and a penalty killer as an injury replacement during his NHL service. He has averaged 13:27 of ice time per game this season.

With forward Evgeni Malkin potentially being activated from injured reserve for Saturday’s home game against the Edmonton Oilers, the Penguins needed to clear a roster spot to stay within the NHL’s limit of 23 active players on a roster.

Lafferty was a healthy scratch for Tuesday’s 7-1 home win against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
