Sidney Crosby fights for 1st time in 4 years in exhibition game at Buffalo
Penguins forward Sidney Crosby fought Buffalo Sabres forward Peyton Krebs during a 7-4 road preseason win Friday by Pittsburgh at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
The fight occurred at 3:50 of the second period when Crosby objected to a hit Krebs and Tyson Jost delivered to Penguins defenseman Kris Letang.
Crosby was also assessed a roughing minor on the sequence.
“I just saw Tanger get hit and I didn’t really know. I don’t even think I got the right guy who actually made the initial hit,” Crosby told reporters in Buffalo after the game. “I just saw the aftermath and saw two guys, what looked like two guys who kind of ran him. It didn’t really end up that way, but it’s part of the game.”
According to Hockey Fights, this was the ninth time Crosby has received a fighting major in his career, which is entering its 19th season.
It was his first fight in almost exactly four years. He tangled with Pierre-Luc Dubois in a game against Columbus on Oct. 5, 2019.
“I just think it’s obviously a testament to his leadership,” coach Mike Sullivan said. “He’s sticking up for his teammate. In that situation, I was glad it didn’t last long. Certainly don’t want to put him in those situations, but I think that’s just a testament to his leadership.”
