GLENDALE, Ariz. — Penguins captain Sidney Crosby did not practice with his teammates Monday.

After all, they spent a considerable portion of the day cruising at several thousand feet over the interior of the North American continent.

The Penguins had a scheduled day off in order to travel back home to Pittsburgh after their 4-3 win over Arizona on Sunday night.

Crosby’s status to return to the lineup remains murky as the team and Crosby himself have offered mostly nugatory updates on his recovery from a core muscle ailment which has kept him sidelined since Nov. 9.

When Crosby’s surgery was announced Nov. 14, the team suggested Crosby’s recovery would take a minimum of six weeks. As of Monday, he has been absent eight-plus weeks since his surgery.

Crosby has missed 28 games because of the ailment. As a team, the Penguins have 188 man games lost this season.

The Penguins are scheduled to play the Minnesota Wild at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday.
