The Penguins selected defenseman Emil Pieniniemi in the third round (No. 91 overall) during the NHL Draft at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., July 29, 2023.

The Pittsburgh Penguins cut six players from their training camp roster Saturday afternoon.

All six players were return to their respective junior teams in the Ontario Hockey League:

Forwards — Justin Cloutier (Soo Greyhounds), Cooper Foster (Ottawa 67’s)

Defensemen — Caeden Carlisle (Soo Greyhounds), Donovan McCoy (Sudbury Wolves), Emil Pieniniemi (Kingston Frontenacs)

Goaltender — Charlie Schenkel (Soo Greyhounds)

Foster (sixth round, No. 174 overall) and Pieniniemi (third round, N0. 91 overall) were selected in the 2023 NHL Draft. Pieniniemi is signed to a three-year entry level contract that will slide — or begin — once he turns professional.

Carlisle, Cloutier, McCoy and Schenkel were non-roster invitees to camp.
