Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Chad Ruhwedel is not expected to be in the lineup for Wednesday’s home game against the Detroit Red Wings at PPG Paints Arena due to an undisclosed injury.

Penguins coach Mike Sullivan announced Ruhwedel’s status approximately two hours before the game. The nature of severity of Ruhwedel’s injury was not disclosed and Sullivan indicated the right-handed defenseman was still being evaluated.

During a 5-1 road loss to the New York Islanders on Tuesday, Ruhwedel did not record a shift beyond the 1:45 mark of the first period.

In 17 games this season, Ruhwedel has recorded one assist while averaging 13:10 of ice time per contest.
