Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson scores as Sweden beats France

A look at how players with connections to the Pittsburgh Penguins have done in the ongoing International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship tournament:

Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson scored the winning goal during a power-play sequence for Sweden in a 3-1 win against France during a preliminary round game at Ostravar Arena in Vítkovice, Czechia on Monday.

Opening the contest on the second pairing with fellow Penguins defenseman Marcus Pettersson, Karlsson logged 20:59 of ice time on 21 shifts and had two shots.

Pettersson clocked 17:33 of ice time on 22 shifts and had four shots as well as two penalty minutes.

Wheeling Nailers forward Justin Addamo was held without a point for France.

An alumni of Robert Morris, Addamo centered France’s third line and totaled 13:48 of ice time on 18 shifts while going 5 for 9 (55.5%) on faceoffs.

Highlights:

Sweden’s next game is against Slovakia on Tuesday, 2:20 p.m. (EDT). France will next play Germany on Tuesday, 6:20 a.m.


Penguins forwards Jesse Puljujarvi and Valtteri Puustinen were each held without a point for Finland during a 3-1 win against Denmark at the O2 Arena in Prague.

Deployed on the right wing of Finland’s third line, Puljujarvi 15:43 of ice time on 19 shifts and one shot.

Puustinen skated on the right wing of the fourth line and clocked 13:04 of ice time on 16 shifts while collecting a shot and two penalty minutes.

Highlights:

Finland’s next game is against Switzerland on Tuesday, 2:20 p.m.
