Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jack St. Ivany suffered an undisclosed injury during a 5-3 preseason win against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

There was no immediate word on his status beyond a social media posting by the team indicating he was injured during the game.

St. Ivany, an outside candidate to land a spot on the NHL roster for the upcoming regular season, did not record a shift beyond the 11-minute, 7-second mark of the first period.

Penguins forward Tristan Broz opened the scoring with his second goal of the preseason during a power-play sequence at 17:32 of the first period. During the second period, the Penguins got goals from defenseman Matt Dumba (his first goal at the 5:52 mark) and forward Avery Hayes (his first goal at 19:54 during a power-play sequence).

In the final period, Penguins forward Ville Koivunen added his second goal at the 10:01 mark, and forward Filip Hallander capped the scoring with his first goal on an empty net at 17:57.

Goaltender Arturs Silovs recorded the win after making 28 saves on 31 shots. His preseason record improved to 2-1-0.

The Penguins are 4-1-1 this preseason. They will conclude the preseason with a home contest against the Sabres on Friday.
