Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang has been labeled as “day to day” due to an undisclosed injury he suffered during a 6-1 home loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday.

Letang crashed into the boards awkwardly while trying to deliver a check and did not record a shift beyond the 2:08 mark of the third period.

Coach Dan Muse indicated Letang will travel with the team for an upcoming three-game road trip throughout California. Forward Kevin Hayes, sidelined since suffering a suspected left shoulder injury on the first day of training camp on Sept. 18, will also travel with the team.

The right-handed Letang did not participate in Sunday’s practice session in Cranberry. He has appeared in three games this season and has no points while averaging 21:42 of ice time per contest.

Notes:

• Hayes and rookie forward Rutger McGroarty each skated before the team’s practice session. McGroarty has been sidelined since suffering an undisclosed injury before training camp.

• The team’s lines in practice were:

67 Rickard Rakell - 87 Sidney Crosby - 17 Bryan Rust

39 Anthony Mantha - 71 Evgeni Malkin - 16 Justin Brazeau

18 Tommy Novak - 81 Ben Kindel - 53 Philip Tomasino

11 Filip Hallander - 18 Connor Dewar - 46 Blake Lizotte - 55 Noel Acciari

• As the defensive pairings were concerned, the top pair of Parker Wotherspoon and Erik Karlsson remained intact while the quinet of Harrison Brunicke, Connor Clifton, Matt Dumba, Caleb Jones and Ryan Shea rotated.
