Penguins draft defenseman Emil Pieniniemi in 3rd round

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In the third round of the NHL Draft at Bridgestone Arena, the Pittsburgh Penguins selected defenseman Emil Pieniniemi No. 91 overall.

A left-handed shot, Pieniniemi (6-foot-2, 175 pounds) primarily played for Karpat in his native Finland at the junior level. In 31 games, Pieniniemi scored 12 points (one goal, 12 assists).

The Penguins acquired this pick and a seventh-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft by dealing the No. 90 pick in the current draft to the New York Rangers.

Barring any futher transactions, the Penguins are currently scheduled to have four more picks in the ongoing draft.

Fifth round: No. 142

Sixth round: No. 174

Seventh round: No. 217 (from Toronto Maple Leafs)

Seventh round: No. 223 (from Florida Panthers)
