Penguins draft forward Mikhail Ilyin in 5th round

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In the fifth round of the NHL Draft at Bridgestone Arena, the Pittsburgh Penguins selected forward Mikhail Ilyin No. 142 overall.

A native of Russia, Ilyin, 18, split the 2022-23 season between Severstal of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and Almaz of Russia’s Junior Hockey League (MHL).

With Severstal, the left-handed Ilyin (6-foot, 181 pounds) appeared in 21 games and recorded two assists. Skating for Almaz, he posted 26 points (four goals, 22 assists) in 28 games.

Barring any futher transactions, the Penguins are currently scheduled to have three more picks in the ongoing draft.

Sixth round: No. 174

Seventh round: No. 217 (from Toronto Maple Leafs)

Seventh round: No. 223 (from Florida Panthers)
