A look at how players with connections to the Pittsburgh Penguins have done in the ongoing International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship Tournament:

Penguins forward Alex Nylander recorded an assist for Sweden in a 5-1 win against Denmark in a preliminary round game at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland, on Monday.

Deployed on Sweden’s third line, Nylander logged 15:11 of ice time on 18 shifts and had two shots on goal.

Sweden’s next game is against the United States on Tuesday, 9:20 a.m. (EDT).

Penguins defenseman P.O Joseph clocked 16:59 of ice time on 22 shifts for Canada in a 3-2 shootout loss to Norway at Riga Arena in Riga Latvia.

Utilized on Canada’s third pairing, Joseph had two shots.

Canada’s next game is against Czechia on Tuesday, 9:20 a.m. (EDT).

Penguins defensive prospect Thimo Nickl logged 12:27 of ice time on 18 shifts for Austria in a 4-3 shootout win against Hungary at Nokia Arena.

Currently unsigned by the Penguins, Nickl had two shots while primarily skating on Austria’s first pairing.

Highlights:

Austria finished the tournament with a 1-3-1 record.
