The Penguins activated rookie forward Drew O’Connor from injured reserve on Monday.
O’Connor has been sidelined since reportedly suffering a collapsed lung Jan. 15. Despite the ailment, O’Connor has been a regular presence in practices for several weeks.
In 22 games this season, O’Connor has five points (two goals, three assists).
Notes:
• In a corresponding transaction, rookie forward Radim Zohorna was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).
A healthy scratch for the past four games, Zohorna has appeared in eight NHL games this season and scored two points (one goal, one assist). Zohorna has also played in 23 AHL games this season and scored 10 points (five goals, five assists).
• The team also assigned defenseman Mark Friedman to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning assignment.
Friedman has been a healthy scratch for 38 of the Penguins’ past 39 games, including the past 18 contests.
In 12 games this season, Friedman has four assists.
Per the collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA), conditioning assignments can not last more than 14 days. Players on conditioning assignments still count towards the NHL club’s salary cap figure and the 23-man roster limit.
• The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins assigned forward Sam Houde to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
• The Pittsburgh Penguins had a scheduled day off Monday.
