In 13 games this season, Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has 18 points (three goals, 15 assists).

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin was fined $5,000 by the NHL for slashing Winnipeg Jets defenseman Logan Stanley during a game Saturday.

The NHL announced the punitive measure Sunday.

During a 5-2 home win by the Jets, Malkin was assessed a minor penalty for slashing at 15:37 of the first period.

Malkin — the Penguins’ career leader in penalty minutes (1,214) — is no stranger to supplemental discipline by the league. Less than a year ago, he was fined $5,000 for slashing Boston Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei on Nov. 30. Throughout his 20-year career, Malkin has been fined four separate occasions (including Sunday) and suspended twice.

The total is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the NHL Players’ Association. All money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
