Following his team’s 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in New York, Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin indicated his agent, J.P. Barry, will discuss a potential contract extension with the team following the season.

“We talk a little bit with J.P. a couple of days ago and he just said wait until the end of the season and see what’s going on,” Malkin said to reporters in New York via audio provided by the Penguins’ media relations staff. “Nothing I can say right now.”

Malkin, 39, is in the final year of a four-year contract that carries a salary cap hit of $6.1 million. He is the Penguins’ second-leading scorer, behind forward Sidney Crosby, with 13 goals and 46 points in 43 games.
