Penguins forward Jake Guentzel selected for All-Star Game
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel has been selected for the NHL’s All-Star Game exhibition next month.
It is the first time Guentzel has been selected for the event. He has emerged this season at the Penguins’ leading scorer with 40 points (19 goals, 21 assists) in 38 games.
The game is, in reality, a three-on-three tournament between the NHL’s four divisions. Guentzel will be a member of the Metropolitan Division’s squad.
The All-Star festivities, which include a skills competition, will be Jan. 24-25 at Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
Guentzel could be joined by defenseman Kris Letang, who was named as the Penguins’ candidate for the “Last Men In” vote, which allows fans to select an extra player for each divisional team. Letang has been selected for five All-Star games.
Former Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, now of the Vegas Golden Knights, was selected for the Pacific Division. It is the fourth time Fleury has been chosen.
