Penguins forward Kevin Hayes nominated for King Clancy Memorial Trophy
Forward Kevin Hayes was selected as the Pittsburgh Penguins’ nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.
The NHL announced nominees for all 32 teams on Tuesday.
Named after Hockey Hall of Famer Frank “King” Clancy, the award recognizes “the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”
The winner is selected by a committee including league commissioner Gary Bettman as well as past recipients of the trophy. A $25,000 donation will be directed to a charity or charities of the winner’s choice.
Hayes heads an initiative labeled “Hayes’ Heros” that recognizes first responders. After home games, Hayes participates in meetings with members of that community.
No Penguins player has won the trophy which was initially awarded following the 1987-88 season.
