Penguins forward Philip Tomasino placed on injured reserve
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Philip Tomasino was placed on injured reserve Sunday.
He suffered an undisclosed ailment during a 3-2 shootout road loss to the Florida Panthers on Friday. Per a team spokesperson, Tomasino is considered “week to week” in his recovery.
Since being acquired in a trade with the Nashville Predators on Nov. 25, Tomasino has appeared in 16 games for the Penguins and has recorded seven points (four goals, three assists) while averaging 13:36 of ice time per contest. He is tied with forward Sidney Crosby for the second most game-winning goals on the team with three.
Additionally, defenseman Kris Letang was activated from injured reserve. An undisclosed malady has kept him sidelined for the past three games.
In 34 games this season, Letang has scored 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) while averaging 23:24 of ice time per contest, most among non-goaltenders on the Penguins.
