Pittsburgh Penguins forward Philip Tomasino will miss Sunday’s road game against the Chicago Blackhawks due to an undisclosed injury.
His status was revealed by the team via a release Sunday afternoon.
In 59 games this season, Tomasino has 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) while averaging 13:04 of ice time per contest.
The Penguins acquired Tomasino in a trade with the Nashville Predators on Nov. 25.
All of Tomasino’s goals have been scored as a member of the Penguins. Six of his scores have been game-winning goals. Only forward Sidney Crosby (seven) has more among Penguins teammates.
Notes:
• The team also announced goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic will start Sunday’s game. In 36 games this season, Nedeljkovic has a 13-14-5 record, a 3.19 goals against average, an .892 save percentage and one shutout.
Throughout his career, Nedeljkovic has faced the Blackhawks in six contests and has posted a 3-1-1 record, a 3.00 goals against average and an .887 save percentage.
• With Tomasino sidelined, the Penguins quietly recalled forward Joona Koppanen from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. On Saturday, he was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a paper transaction.
• Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson has 199 career goals.
• Per WGN Radio, the Blackhawks will start goaltender Spencer Knight. In 34 games this season, Knight has a 15-15-2 record, a 2.67 goals against average, a .902 save percentage and two shutouts.
Throughout his career, Knight has faced the Penguins in two contests and has posted a 1-0-1 record, a 3.33 goals against average and an .851 save percentage.
• The Blackhawks are the only team the Penguins have yet to play this season.
