Forward Sidney Crosby served as Canada’s captain during the 2014 Olympics.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby was named to Canada’s preliminary roster for the 2026 Olympics, which will be held in Italy.

All participating countries announced the first six members of their rosters Monday. In addition to Crosby, Hockey Canada named forwards Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche), Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers), Brayden Point (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Sam Reinhart (Florida Panthers) as well as defenseman Cale Makar (Avalanche).

Crosby has previously skated for Canada on the Olympic stage, winning gold in 2010 and 2014.

This past regular season, Crosby, 37, led the Penguins with 91 points (33 goals, 58 assists) in 80 games while averaging 20 minutes, 22 seconds of ice time per contest.

Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas is serving as director of player personnel for Canada.

Former Robert Morris forward Daniel Mantenuto was selected to Italy’s roster.

Captain of the Colonials during his senior season of 2019-20, the 27-year-old Mantenuto is a native of Thornhill, Ontario, and has represented Italy in several international events.

Teams from Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States are scheduled to participate in the men’s tournament.

The men’s and women’s tournaments will be staged between Feb. 6 and 22 in Milan.

NHL players, coaches, executives and other staffers did not participate in the 2018 or 2022 Olympics.
