Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry has a lower-body injury and is not traveling with the team to Boston for their game Saturday against the Bruins.

Jarry was not at practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry on Friday, and coach Mike Sullivan said afterward that Jarry was being evaluated.

Jarry is eighth in the NHL in both goals-against average (2.42) and save percentage (.919). Only three goalies in the league have more shutouts (four). Jarry ranks tied for fifth in games played (58) and fourth in shots faced (1,711).

Jarry played the entirety of Thursday’s 6-3 win against the New York Islanders. Casey DeSmith had started the Penguins’ two previous games — but that was not considered unusual because Sunday’s matchup with the Nashville Predators was a back-to-back situation, and DeSmith’s performance in that game was strong enough it was not a surprise Sullivan turned back to him for Tuesday’s game at the Islanders.

Sullivan did not disclose precisely when Jarry suffered the injury, but Islanders forward Anders Lee tripped and slid into Jarry’s right leg midway through the third period of Thursday’s game. Jarry flexed his right leg for a little while after that but completed the game.

DeSmith (8-4-5, 2.94 GAA, .906 save percentage) is expected to get the start for the 12:30 p.m. Saturday faceoff in Boston.

Louis Domingue is the top goalie for the Penguins’ AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The organization did not immediately announce a roster move.

Keep up with the Pittsburgh Penguins all season long.
