Penguins goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic scheduled to face Red Wings
The Pittsburgh Penguins are scheduled to start goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic in Sunday’s home game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Coach Mike Sullivan announced Nedeljkovic’s status approximately two hours before the opening faceoff.
In 23 games this season, Nedeljkovic has a 9-6-4 record, a 2.79 goals against average, a .906 save percentage and one shutout.
Throughout his career, Nedeljkovic has played the Red Wings in two games and has posted a 2-0-0 record, a 1.51 goals against average and a .961 save percentage.
A free agent signing by the Penguins this past offseason, Nedeljkovic spent the previous two seasons with the Red Wings.
Notes:
• The Penguins quietly recalled rookie defenseman Jack St. Ivany from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) prior to the game.
Late Saturday night, he was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after being recalled under emergency conditions on Friday morning.
His recall on Sunday has not been announced by the team but his presence on the NHL roster is reflected on the league’s media website.
A second-year professional, the right-handed St. Ivany has yet to play in the NHL. With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the 24-year-old has played in 52 games this season and has scored 12 points (four goals, eight assists).
• Penguins forward Sidney Crosby has gone 11 consecutive games without a goal. He has six assists over that span.
• The Red Wings are expected to start goaltender Alex Lyon. In 34 games this season, Lyon has an 18-14-2 record, a 3.03 goals against average, a .904 save percentage and two shutouts.
• Red Wings defenseman Jake Wallman has played in 199 career games.
