Penguins hire new goaltending development coaches
The Penguins have hired Charles Grant and Kain Tisi as goaltending development coach. They replace Andy Chiodo who was promoted to goaltending coach at the NHL level in August.
Grant and Tisi will work with the organization’s goaltending prospects while also serve as scouts for draft-eligible goalies and college free agent goaltenders.
Grant, 29, spent the past three seasons as goaltending coach of the Cape Breton Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
Tisi, 36, spent the last seven seasons with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as that team’s goaltending coach. While with Kitchener, Tisi coached three goaltenders that were drafted by NHL teams, including Jacob Ingham (Los Angeles Kings — sixth round, 2018), Luke Opilka (St. Louis Blues — fifth round, 2015) and Jake Paterson (Detroit Red Wings — third round, 2012).
Previously, only one person has served in this role for the Penguins.
Chiodo was promoted after previous NHL goaltending coach Mike Buckley was fired in the wake of starting goaltender Tristan Jarry’s struggles during the 2021 postseason. All three of the team’s previous goaltending development coaches — Chiodo, Buckley and Mike Bales — have gone on to serve as NHL goaltending coaches.
