The Pittsburgh Penguins made several moves to restock their farm system Monday, particularly at the American Hockey league level, to kick off the start of NHL free agency.

Inking 26-year-old defenseman Nathan Clurman represents one such acquisition.

Clurman’s deal carries a $775,000 salary cap hit at the NHL level.

The 6-foot-2 right-handed shot, a native of Boulder, Colo., spent last season with the Colorado Eagles, AHL affiliate of the Avalanche, with whom he scored a goal and four assists in 37 games.

Clurman was drafted by the Avalanche in the sixth round (No. 161) of the 2016 NHL Draft and has spent his entire hockey career in their system.

Over parts of four seasons with the Eagles, he appeared in 110 games, scoring five goals with 16 assists.

Clurman played college hockey at Notre Dame from 2018-21.

He has yet to appear in a regular-season NHL contest.
